What's New? What Are You Working On Today?
#11

"So, I did some more research this morning. The journal ran for 24 consecutive issues plus an 1867 supplement. If you'd like to explore them, here's an online link to every issue.

Hey Hugh! I went to the link, but all I'm seeing is the cover page available in JPG and other formats, not the actual mag. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Sounds like you're both having a lot of fun. Enjoy.

As for me ... at the moment, I'm focused on the period leading up to, including and following the first world war. I'm rather fascinated by the transition that took place following the end of the 19th century and the small wars and great power politics leading up to 1914: e.g. the 2md Boer War, the Russo-Japanese War and the troubles in the Balkans as the Ottoman Empire started its decline. I'm exploring how this is reflected in the field-post of all the belligerent nations leading up to and continuing into the world war. After the war, a lot of empires collapsed into a new independent states (or tried to) resulting in a series of civil and local wars and insurgencies. Field-post from that period is of interest to me as well. That'll keep me busy for a while. I've accumulated a lot of German feldpost cards and letrers. Now I'm working on soldiers' mail from the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

When I need a break, I work on field-post, correspondence,, occupation stamps and especially local issues during and following the second World War. I recently got a huge assortment of German covers and letters from Roy which I'm working my way through.

And, when I really need a break ... I just choose an interesting looking cover at random and try to figure out its story.

Those are my projects for the winter months.

Cheers, Hugh

Hi Carmen ...

When you use the link, look for the right and left arrow buttons at the top of the page. That allows you to navagate through the various issues.

You can also just download the PDF. Note the download buttons near the bottom of the page.

So this morning, I will be doing Electronic Work - I still have EZStamp on what is now my Work computer, and am going to make sure that everything gets backed up properly to be imported into EzStamp on this machine as I have noticed some discrepancies between old and new:

"WHADDAYA MEAN MY AUSTRIAN DATABASE HAS NO STAMPS IN IT?! OF COURSE IT DOES YOU STUPID MACHINE!" Huh

Sigh...

Well yesterday I started to put a collection of British Presentation Packs that were given to me in numerical order to start with, before starting to catalogue them. I wound up emailing Marios at EZStamp because the GB database doesn't really show them, just the various individual stamps, whihc could really be tedious cause I got a lot of PPs. He suggested I simply create my own catalogue number, like PP-001 and catalogue them that way. The man's a genius I tell ya!

Then last night I finally received the American Topical Association complete "Topical Time mag since 1949" USB key that I had ordered to help me since I am also a topical collector.

Well that has paid off INSTANTLY: the VERY FIRST ARTICLE of Topical Time was on... Religion on Stamps... one of my collecting interests! I'll say it again: HOORAY FOR ME!!!  Big Grin

Carmen, that's a great idea ... a nice simple solution. (The best kind)

You may already have it, but the Stanley Gibbons GB Concise Catalogue lists the PHQ cards and has a presentation pack listing include the Royal Mail reference codes.

Always nice to have a full set of philatelic journals from your favourite club.

I sent one book of APS sales books back to APS .The next one will have Revenue stamps as well I hinge lower rate stamps but $75.00 not used ones I will use mounts. A book takes 4 times the rate to send by regular mail. They will never get sent back to me. Id have to pay HST if they did. I've sold more out of the books on Hip stamps so I have to refill them lol I only send free stamps to old clients attached to old not used postal cards. Ill post that some other day.
