Nice one ... let's keep it going.
Here's another joint issue ... Canada and Italy, 1997.
Commemorating the voyage of John Cabot in 1497 to the shores of Newfoundland (or, Cape Breton, Nova Soctia -- maybe). John Cabot was born in Italy (nobody is quite sure where) and was sailing under the sponsorhip of Henry VII of England. It's been suggested that when he arrived, Basque fisherman were already working the Grand Banks off Newfoundland. A secret fishing spot they had known about for years (smile). There are the ruins of a Basque whaling station at Red Bay on the south shore of Labrador. It (only) dates back to 1530. I visited it about 25 years ago. In 2013 it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site - but that's another story.
Stamps:
Canada: 500th Anniversary of John Cabot's Voyage to (what is today) Canada
John Cabot's Ship Mathew with Map and Globe
45c 6 Colour Lithography, Fluorescent coated paper + GT4 tagging (all edges)
Issued on June 24, 1997
Unitrade 1649
Italy - Il Viaggio de Caboto
Sc. 2162
