As for me ... at the moment, I'm focused on the period leading up to, including and following the first world war. I'm rather fascinated by the transition that took place following the end of the 19th century and the small wars and great power politics leading up to 1914: e.g. the 2md Boer War, the Russo-Japanese War and the troubles in the Balkans as the Ottoman Empire started its decline. I'm exploring how this is reflected in the field-post of all the belligerent nations leading up to and continuing into the world war. After the war, a lot of empires collapsed into a new independent states (or tried to) resulting in a series of civil and local wars and insurgencies. Field-post from that period is of interest to me as well. That'll keep me busy for a while. I've accumulated a lot of German feldpost cards and letrers. Now I'm working on soldiers' mail from the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
When I need a break, I work on field-post, correspondence,, occupation stamps and especially local issues during and following the second World War. I recently got a huge assortment of German covers and letters from Roy which I'm working my way through.
And, when I really need a break ... I just choose an interesting looking cover at random and try to figure out its story.
Those are my projects for the winter months.
