Great summary Roy ... thanks.
What i like best about the Penny Reds is that they are fun to play with (smile).
Over 21 billion of them were printed by Perkins, Bacon and Co. between 1841 and 1879. What that means is that there are a LOT of them around. So, for an old-timey stamp you can get most of them on the cheap which makes it easy to find MANY postmarks on the same stamp.
A few months ago, for example, I started this page. As you can see I'm still looking. Four to go.
After I finish this basic set, I'll do the expanded ring around London and then start looking for the major cities in the rest of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. There are a lot of PO numbers on the obliterators. Might be a relaxing thing to do during the Winter.
I know several club members have a nice collection of the Penny Red plate numbers. I started my collection a bit later than most, so I have a long way to go.
Cheers, Hugh
