My first military post office!
#1

I have been taking an interest in our local postal infrastructure because of Graham (Exploring Stamps) Beck’s new PixPost app. A few days ago the quest led me to the post office on CFB Kingston. I was delighted to find it was more than a retail post office - it was also the distribution point for Military Post Office 305 Vimy. An MPO, a postmaster in camo and great cancels - well worth the time invested in the ferry line!

That cancel is much better than mine! I have been a little disappointed with the quality of some of the in-person cancels I have collected this summer.

Hey Hugh! Out of curiosity, how did you create that clear black and white cancel?

Hi Carmen …

You asked how I did that B&W mage of the CDS.

You can do it lots of ways. If you used an Apple OS you can take a photo or scan into iPhoto and enhance it in a great many ways to increase the contrast — including changing it to B&W. Or you can use a program called Image Slueth using your browser. You can find Image Sleuth on the same website as the well-known Album Easy DIY Album Page site.A third option is to use an App called Postmark Reveal which you can download from the App Store.

The last two options are specifically designed to help you read cancels and hand-stamps.The first option can do that, and more, but it requires a bit more practice. Image Sleuth and Postmark Reveal do most of the work for you. You just need to upload a photo and they do the rest.

Good luck.
Hugh
