The sometimes-tedium of stamp collecting...
#1

Although I love stamp collecting and all its varied tasks, can I get an Amen from everyone, that some of it is tedious, right? Right now, I'm cataloguing a great album of Roger Tory Peterson-illustrated Audubon FDCs which I acquired (perhaps from one of the forum members?! Cool ) at October's Kingston Stamp Show. They commemorate the anniversary of his birth.

Each is a beautiful piece of art... from 16 different countries, 2 different stamps each, hence 16 different databases in EZStamp, with two stamp records for each. 32 entries, with of course, 16 pics of the cover itself because I'm taking the trouble to do that for this. Thank goodness for Google Drive and how it simplifies me getting the pics into my Stamp Collecting directory.

Ya, tedium. But at least I get to Look At The Pretty FDCs, ya know?  Tongue So what's your version of Tedium?

Hi Carmen ... you asked what 'tedium' others find with their collecting.

Well, I'm not sure I'd call it tedium. I probably would call it relaxing or challenging or frustrating (smile) ... but if what you mean is something that is 'a lot of work before you get the pleasurable result', my two candidates would be:

a) trying to read old German handwriting (pre-1930) when people used the older cursive scripts like kurrent.

b) trying to read cross-writing

It can be done, but it takes a while.
