Here's one of my favorite stamps from South Korea.
The Turtle Ship 거북선 ... used by Korea's Admiral Yi Sun-sin during the attempt byToyotomi Hideyoshi to conquer Korea for Japan in the late 16th C. Considered by some historians to be the first ironclad ship in history.
This occupation stamp was the final one issued issued during the rule of the US Military Government of Korea following the end of WW2 in the pacific. The Republic of Korea, in the south, was established on August 15, 1948. After this stamp, and leading up to the vote that establihed the new Republic, and thereafer, South Korea started to issue its own stamps.
